Sumiyoshi Taisha Osaka
Sumiyoshi Taisha in Osaka, Japan is a shrine with a long history. It is a popular shrine with many worshipers at the beginning of the New Year. I went there on January 2, 2021, so I will report on it.
Sumiyoshi Taisha Precincts
There are four main shrines of Sumiyoshi Taisha, which are lined up vertically and the site is large.

Sokotsutsu no Onomikoto, Nakatsutsu no Onomikoto and Uwatsutsu no Onomikoto collectively refer to the three gods as Sumiyoshi Ogami, by the oracle of Sumiyoshi Ogami, “Give me my Nigimidama and look at the boats that go to Ootsu non unakkurakanagao.” It is said that Okinagatarashi hime no Mikoto became a oracle in this area in 211 AD.
Sumiyoshi Omikami is also a god born from the sea and is said to be the ancestor of maritime protection and trade.
Sumiyoshi Taisha Sorihashi Bridge(Taiko bashi)
Sori hashi Bridge is also called a drum bridge, and it is cleaned just by passing through it. The bridge is quite curved and looks like a staircase.
The length is about 20m, the height is about 3.6m, the width is about 5.5m, and the maximum inclination is about 48 degrees.
Sumiyoshi Taisha Hongu
The four Hongu shapes of Sumiyoshi Taisha are similar. The photos are the 3rd Hongu and the 4th Hongu.
Sumiyoshi Taisha Highlights
Sumiyoshi Taisha, which has a long history and a large site, has many attractions.
Birthstone
It is said that the Tango Bureau (Tango no Tsubone), which was favored by the military commander Minamoto no Yoritomo, gave birth here, and his child is Tadahisa Shimazu, the founder of the Satsuma Domain “Shimadzu”.
Omokaruishi
Omokaruishi is a spirit stone that tells whether or not a wish will come true, “Omokaruishi” by Oitoshiboshi. It is a popular spot of Sumiyoshi Taisha where you can make a line.
About a 2-minute walk southeast from the precincts of the head office, there is “Omokaru Stone” on the premises of Setsumatsusha Otoshisha.
Fortune-telling is as follows: First visit (two worships, two clappings, one worship), then lift the stone and check the weight. Then put your hand on the stone and make a wish, then lift the stone again. It is said that the wish will come true if it feels lighter to lift it a second time.

Issunboshi’s bowl
Issunboshi’s bowl is located in the precincts of Tanekashisha, a small character of 1 inch (about 3.3 cm) in Japanese fairy tales. A child was given to an elderly couple who was not blessed with children when they prayed to the god of Sumiyoshi. However, the child was only 1 inch (about 3.3 cm) and was named Issunboshi. He aspires to board a bowl boat, puts a needle sword on his waist, and uses chopsticks as a paddle to climb from Sumiyoshi no Ura to Kyoto. At the end, it’s a story about a successful career.

Sumiyoshi Taisha Omikuji
There is an Omikuji at Sumiyoshi Taisha, and the result was Syoukichi. Syoukichi is a little bad result. The written content is “Look at the reality properly”, and the lucky item seems to be “round and white”.
Yesterday, I gave a fortune at Heian Shrine in Kyoto, but the result was that I had less luck than Heian Shrine.
Sumiyoshi Taisha Hatsumode 2021
On January 2, 2021, there were quite a lot of worshipers who came to Hatsumode (First visit). There were no stalls in 2021. The worshipers who came here were worshiping for the first time this year, so they worshiped seriously.
Sumiyoshi Taisha, which is one of the oldest shrines in Osaka, has long been loved by the people of Osaka. It was a shrine with a nice view.
